New Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh police have cracked a brazen home burglary case, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old maid accused of stealing over Rs 5.63 lakh in cash. In a swift operation, officers recovered Rs 2,66,600 from her possession, with interrogations ongoing to trace the remaining amount.
The incident came to light on January 15 when a distress call reached the Police Control Room about a theft in the Punjabi Bagh area. Responding promptly, the police recorded the complainant’s statement and filed an FIR the next day, launching a meticulous investigation.
Given the rising thefts in the locality, a dedicated team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Sanjay Dahiya, SHO of Punjabi Bagh Police Station. Head Constable Mukesh was part of the squad, supervised by ACP Shivam of Punjabi Bagh and DCP West District Sharad Bhaskar Darade.
The breakthrough came after the team scoured footage from over 25 CCTV cameras and leveraged local intelligence. This led them to Lakshmi, the domestic helper employed at the victim’s home. During questioning, she confessed to the theft, and the recovered cash was seized under legal procedures.
Notably, Lakshmi has no prior criminal record, marking this as her first offense. Police are now probing if accomplices were involved, vowing to leave no stone unturned. The case underscores the vulnerability of households relying on domestic staff and highlights the efficiency of Delhi Police’s investigative prowess.
Further legal proceedings are underway as authorities aim to recover the full stolen sum and ensure justice is served swiftly.
