New Delhi’s opposition leader in the assembly, Atishi, has fired off a strongly worded letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding urgent talks on the capital’s spiraling law and order crisis. With murders, robberies, gang wars, and brazen shootings becoming daily headlines, residents are living in fear. ‘Delhi deserves security, not silence,’ she declared in the letter.
Atishi painted a grim picture of recent months, where violent crimes have instilled terror among ordinary citizens, especially women, seniors, and business owners. The most shocking incident unfolded near Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s residence, where AAP worker and RWA president Rachna Yadav was gunned down in broad daylight. As she returned home, assailants confirmed her identity before riddling her with bullets. This targeted killing raises alarming questions about witness protection, as Yadav was set to testify in her husband’s murder case on February 7, 2026.
The letter also highlighted the November 10, 2025, car bomb blast near Lal Qila that claimed 13 lives and injured many, now under NIA probe. Such an attack at a historic landmark exposes massive security lapses in the national capital.
Other incidents include a December 2025 case where a Delhi Police constable tried snatching a woman’s earring, only to be caught by a mob. Then there was the September 2025 gangland slaying outside a gym in upscale Greater Kailash, claimed by Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara gangs, proving no area is safe. Recent firing sprees in West Vihar, Green Park, and East Delhi on January 13-14, 2026, added to the chaos.
Atishi slammed police delays and lack of accountability, noting Delhi Police reports directly to the Home Ministry yet fails to curb crime. ‘As the nation’s capital, Delhi’s safety is a national prestige issue,’ she stressed, urging Shah to address these failures before public trust erodes completely.
