The Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Numal Momin, has put forward a proposal to create a Zubeen Garg Memorial Trust. This initiative aims to channel support towards the welfare of the poor, widows, orphans, and other marginalized individuals in Assam. The trust would also focus on aiding students with scholarships, thereby ensuring that Zubeen Garg’s memory continues to benefit society. Momin suggested that this trust could become a beacon of hope for many, providing essential assistance and opportunities. He envisioned a trust that is inclusive and transparent, urging all 34 million people of Assam to join as members. The passing of the renowned singer Zubeen Garg was described as a tragic event, marking a considerable loss for the region and the nation’s music lovers. Momin also commented on the ongoing investigation into Garg’s death, expressing confidence in the swift actions taken by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He mentioned the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a committee involving high court judges, underscoring the commitment to uncovering the truth. The Deputy Speaker reassured the public that the investigation is proceeding appropriately and that further action, including a potential CBI inquiry, would be pursued to ensure justice for the late artist. Five individuals have been apprehended in connection with the singer’s demise.
