In a fiery outburst during Andhra Pradesh’s budget session, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) legislators accused the TDP-led coalition government of compelling Governor S. Abdul Nazeer to deliver a speech riddled with falsehoods and exaggerated claims. The confrontation unfolded on the first day of the assembly’s joint session, where opposition members walked out in protest.

YSRCP MLA Tatiparthi Chandrasekhar branded the governor’s address as a mere compilation of ‘yellow media’ reports, pointing fingers at TDP-friendly outlets. He lambasted Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s administration for lacking substantive achievements despite its self-proclaimed visionary status.

The party, led by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, charged that the government fears granting them official opposition status, dreading scrutiny over its failures. With 164 seats in the 175-member assembly, the coalition is allegedly intimidated by just 11 YSRCP MLAs.

Chandrasekhar highlighted the state’s ballooning debt under the current regime, claiming it has saddled Andhra Pradesh with Rs 3.27 lakh crore in 20 months. He contrasted this with YSRCP’s five-year tenure, during which welfare schemes flourished without corruption, leaving behind robust finances unlike the TDP’s previous stint that depleted the treasury to Rs 100 crore.

Accusing the government of misleading the public with fanciful projects like Aerospace City and Quantum City, the MLA criticized its focus on real estate in Amaravati and land allotments in Visakhapatnam over genuine development. YSRCP demands leader of opposition status and urges the governor to intervene, pledging full participation in assembly proceedings if granted.

This episode underscores deepening political rifts in Andhra Pradesh, with the opposition vowing to expose what it calls the coalition’s hollow promises and fiscal mismanagement. As the budget session progresses, expect heightened debates on governance accountability.
