New Delhi erupted in political drama as Delhi Police arrested Uday Bhanu Chib, the national president of the Indian Youth Congress, in connection with a bold ‘shirtless protest’ at the India AI Impact Summit. The demonstration, which took place last week at Bharat Mandapam, has now led to eight arrests, intensifying scrutiny on youth activism against government policies.

Police sources revealed that Chib was taken into custody early Tuesday morning. After intense questioning, he was formally arrested and produced before a court. Prosecutors argued for seven days of custody, citing the involvement of suspects from various parts of the country and the need for multi-location investigations.

The protest stemmed from Youth Congress workers’ audacious entry into the high-profile AI summit. Disguised with QR codes obtained through online registration, the activists smuggled in black umbrellas with stickers at first, but switched tactics fearing detection. They wore T-shirts with protest messages under their shirts, stripping down in Hall No. 5’s lobby to chant slogans against rising unemployment, AI policies, and central government decisions.

Eyewitnesses described chaos as bare-chested protesters raised fists, drawing immediate security response. Cases were registered at Tilak Marg police station under charges of disturbing public peace. Prior arrests included Jitendra Yadav, Raja Gurjar, and Ajay Kumar from Gwalior, bringing the total to eight.

Investigators are probing whether this was a spontaneous outburst or a meticulously organized plot. As the case unfolds, it highlights deepening youth frustration amid economic challenges and technological shifts. Political circles buzz with accusations of stifled dissent, while police vow thorough probes. The summit, meant to showcase India’s AI prowess, now symbolizes a flashpoint in national discourse.
