In 2017, UP’s GSDP stood at just 13 lakh crore rupees—a figure reached over 70 years since independence. Under the double-engine government, it has surged by an additional 23 lakh crore in merely eight and a half years, hitting 36 lakh crore today.
UP’s share in India’s economy, which dwindled to 8% by 2016-17, has rebounded to 9.5%. Per capita income has tripled without burdening citizens with extra taxes; instead, revenue leaks have been sealed effectively. For five straight years, UP has maintained revenue surplus status, balancing fiscal prudence with robust growth.

Pre-2017 agriculture lacked policy direction, with high costs, low yields, and middlemen dominance. Now, double-engine speed has slashed costs, boosted output, and made farmers entrepreneurial partners. Agri growth rate jumped from 8.5% to 18.5%, with transparent MSP purchases via DBT.
UP, with 11% of India’s arable land, produces 21% of food grains, linking farms to global markets. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi has transferred 95,000 crore rupees directly to farmers. Advanced seeds, natural farming, drones, and climate tech reach farmers simply, backed by training from scientists, startups, and progressive farmers.
Initiatives like Drone Didi, FPOs, agri-startups, and food processing add value. The UP Agriculture Growth project enhances productivity and industry quality. Strict zero-tolerance on cow slaughter has led to 7,727 shelters protecting over 16 lakh cattle, boosting natural farming and making UP dairy leader with doubled fish production.
Sugarcane farmers, contributing 55% of India’s output, received 3.06 lakh crore in payments in 8.5 years—90,000 crore more than the prior 17 years. 31 major irrigation projects, solar pumps, free tube well power under PM Kusum, and upcoming universities like Buddha Agri-Tech in Kushinagar and Chaudhary Charan Singh Seed Park in Lucknow empower farmers.
