New Delhi, March 7: As the world gears up to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, a significant national conference titled ‘From Bharatiya Nari to Narayani’ kicked off at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital. Organized by the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti for women, the two-day event drew prominent figures, including Dr. Preeti Goyal, retired professor from Delhi University, who graced the occasion as chief guest.
In an exclusive conversation, Dr. Goyal shared her deep connection with the organization. ‘I’ve been associated with Rashtriya Sevika Samiti since I was 10, attending shakhas regularly. After teaching at Delhi University for over 30 years, I took voluntary retirement and continue my work. It’s an honor to be here as a special guest,’ she remarked.
Delving into women’s empowerment, Dr. Goyal challenged conventional narratives. ‘Women are inherently empowered; the term ’empowerment’ is misused. Mothers, in particular, possess innate strength that doesn’t need further boosting. What we truly need is a transformation in societal attitudes.’
She emphasized the role of government and men in driving this change. ‘Some shifts are happening because women are excelling in every field on their own merit. A portion of the male mindset has evolved, but equality remains elusive. Women handle 60% of the workload—managing homes and professional careers—while men contribute 40%.’
Dr. Goyal’s insights underscore a call to action: true progress lies not in amplifying women’s strength, but in reshaping how society perceives and values it. As the conference unfolds, her words resonate, urging a collective rethink ahead of Women’s Day.
