In a chilling case echoing recent high-profile murders, a newlywed woman in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district allegedly conspired with her lover to kill her husband just three months after their marriage. The brutal attack unfolded on a deserted village road, leaving the victim dead and shocking the local community.

Police have arrested four individuals, including the wife Anjali (23), her boyfriend Sanjay alias Sanju (25), and his two accomplices Rohit alias Rocky (20) and Badal alias Siddharth (20). The incident came to light after Ashish Kumar (27), the deceased, was found lifeless near Rawla police station area.

According to investigators, Anjali had been in a long-term relationship with Sanjay, known to her family. Despite this, she was married off against her wishes to Ashish on October 30, 2024. Ashish, who had recently started teaching at a private school, was unaware of the deadly plot brewing against him.

Post-marriage, Anjali sought permission to continue her studies in Sri Ganganagar to stay close to her lover, but Ashish refused. Undeterred, 16 days before the murder, she visited her parental home and secretly met Sanjay to finalize the assassination plan.

On the fateful night of January 30, Anjali convinced Ashish to go for a walk after dinner. On a secluded road, Sanjay and his aides, hiding in bushes, ambushed him. They first struck his head repeatedly with a wooden stick. When he survived the blows, they strangled him with a muffler. Postmortem confirmed death due to severe head injuries and asphyxiation.

To mislead the probe, Anjali handed Ashish’s phone and her earrings to the attackers, staging the scene as a robbery or accident. She was found unconscious near the body and rushed to Rawla Community Health Center, where Ashish was declared dead on arrival.

Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan confirmed the arrests. The three male accused are in five-day police custody, while Anjali faces two days. Interrogations continue to uncover more details in this premeditated crime.

This case draws parallels to the Indore honeymoon murder, where trust became a weapon. Authorities urge vigilance in arranged marriages amid rising love affair-related violence.
