The political groundwork for the West Bengal assembly elections is already being laid, even though the elections are some time away. Both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress are actively strategizing. BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari is concentrating on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s constituency. On the other hand, the TMC is focusing on the BJP-held Nandigram area.

Inside sources from the BJP say that Suvendu Adhikari has started working in Bhawanipur by reinforcing booth levels and doing surveys to determine weaknesses. The aim is to figure out where the Chief Minister’s party did well and where it didn’t in 2021.

Adhikari has made his position clear: Mamata Banerjee’s influence in Bhawanipur won’t be unchallenged. The BJP is collecting voter data and planning to open an office in the constituency.

After the controversy over the special intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar, Adhikari warned that they would remove thousands of fake names in Bengal to prevent fraudulent voting.

The TMC is quietly changing its strategies in Nandigram, where Mamata Banerjee had a narrow victory in 2021, winning by 1,956 votes. This result is still being contested in court. Sources within the party say that TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee and other senior leaders have started meeting with district and block-level organizers to strengthen their position in Adhikari’s area. One TMC leader said that Abhishek Banerjee met leaders from various organizational districts, including Tamluk, and stressed the need for a specific strategy for Nandigram, with a special meeting planned with booth presidents.

Political analysts say the situation is now more than just Bhawanipur versus Nandigram. It’s Mamata versus Suvendu and Abhishek versus Suvendu. Both sides are trying to prove the other’s stronghold can be breached. The focus is on TMC’s next actions in Nandigram, with political analysts anticipating a very competitive election for both parties.
