KOLKATA – In a scathing critique, CPI(M) leader Gargi Chatopadhyay has declared West Bengal’s law and order situation as ‘extremely dire.’ Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, she painted a grim picture of a state where police stand by as silent spectators while crime festers.

Chatopadhyay accused security forces of being solely preoccupied with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s protection, leaving the rest of the state vulnerable. ‘The law enforcement apparatus has become a mockery,’ she asserted, emphasizing that criminals view West Bengal as a safe haven.

She highlighted the government’s failure to prosecute terrorists and criminals effectively, pointing to cases like the RG Kar incident as evidence of administrative apathy. ‘Thieves and dacoits feel untouchable here,’ Chatopadhyay said, laying the blame squarely at Banerjee’s doorstep.

The veteran politician didn’t spare political rivals either, alleging a secret understanding between TMC and BJP. This nexus, she claimed, is fueling irregularities in voter list revisions. Chatopadhyay vowed to intensify protests against the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, warning that both parties are hell-bent on ruining the state.

As tensions simmer ahead of elections, her remarks underscore deepening public frustration with governance. CPI(M) plans street agitations to demand accountability, signaling no let-up in their campaign for electoral integrity and restored law and order.
