In a surprising turn of events just ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, Governor Dr. CV Anand Bose has stepped down from his position. The resignation letter, shared on the official Raj Bhavan ‘X’ handle, marks the end of his tenure in the state.
Bose expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bengal for their love and respect during his service. ‘My innings in West Bengal is coming to an end. I am profoundly thankful to the great people of Bengal,’ he wrote. He announced his move to Kerala to contribute to the vision of a developed India.
The seasoned IAS officer from the 1977 Kerala cadre, who took charge as governor in November 2022, highlighted his commitment to national goals under the guidance of top leadership. He thanked President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah, describing his new role in his home state as a sacred duty.
Bose extended warm wishes to his successor, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, calling him a dear friend and accomplished public administrator. ‘Tomorrow, new beginnings in fresh jungles and pastures. Vande Mataram,’ he concluded optimistically.
His tenure was marked by several tussles with the Mamata Banerjee-led government. The resignation, submitted to Rashtrapati Bhavan and accepted, has sparked political speculation. Chief Minister Banerjee voiced surprise, hinting at possible political pressure from the Centre without consultation on the successor appointment.
As Bose transitions to Kerala, questions loom over the implications for Bengal’s political landscape in the lead-up to crucial polls. His departure underscores the dynamic interplay between state and central authorities in India’s federal structure.
