NEW DELHI: On the solemn occasion of Army Day, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar led the nation in paying heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. His poignant gesture set the tone for nationwide celebrations honoring the Indian Army’s unwavering valor.

In a stirring message, the Vice President emphasized the eternal debt the nation owes to its fallen heroes. ‘Their supreme sacrifice inspires every Indian to uphold the values of courage and patriotism,’ he stated during the commemorative event at the Army headquarters. The ceremony unfolded with full military honors, including wreath-laying and a stirring bugle call of the Last Post.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined the chorus of appreciation, extending warm wishes to all army personnel. ‘The Indian Army stands as the unbreakable shield of our sovereignty. On Army Day, we salute your indomitable spirit and selfless service,’ Shah posted on social media, reaching millions across platforms.

The day marks the anniversary of General K.M. Cariappa taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949, a milestone that symbolized the force’s independence-era transition to national command. Celebrations echoed from Delhi to border outposts, with parades, cultural programs, and community events showcasing military prowess.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his greetings, highlighting the Army’s role in nation-building beyond battlefields—through disaster relief and infrastructure projects in remote regions. ‘Your dedication fortifies our dreams of a Viksit Bharat,’ he affirmed.

Across cities, schools organized special assemblies where children pledged allegiance to the tricolour, learning tales of gallantry from Kargil to Galwan. Veterans’ associations held reunions, sharing stories that bridge generations of service.

As fireworks lit up evening skies in cantonments, the collective message rang clear: the Indian Army isn’t just a defender—it’s the heartbeat of a billion aspirations. This Army Day renews the covenant between the forces and the people they protect.
