New Delhi is set to witness a landmark event in media education as Vice President CP Radhakrishnan graces the 57th convocation of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) for the 2024-25 batch on Friday. The prestigious ceremony will see the Vice President personally honoring the top-performing students with awards, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys.

Adding to the grandeur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, who also serves as the Chancellor of IIMC, will lay the foundation stone for the institute’s new academic block and hostel block. This development underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering media education infrastructure across the nation. Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju, will also be present, alongside faculty members and staff, to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.

The convocation will confer diplomas to students who have successfully completed their courses in journalism (English, Hindi, Radio & TV, Digital Media, Odia, Urdu, Marathi, and Malayalam), advertising, and public relations from various IIMC campuses. In a highlight of the event, 35 medals will be awarded to toppers from each course across all six campuses, with 23 of these including cash prizes, recognizing excellence in diverse fields of mass communication.

The foundation laying ceremony for the new blocks, attended by the Vice President, Minister, and Secretary, signals expansive growth for IIMC. Additionally, Minister Vaishnaw will inaugurate the Creators Lounge at the Incubation Center, a modern facility designed to foster innovation among aspiring media professionals.

Established on August 17, 1965, IIMC has grown into a premier institution with five regional centers catering to English and regional language journalism programs. The first regional center in Dhenkanal, Odisha, was set up in 1993 to address eastern region’s needs. Subsequent centers in Amravati, Maharashtra (2011-12), Aizawl, Mizoram (2011-12), Jammu (2012-13), and Kottayam, Kerala (2012-13) have expanded access to quality media training nationwide.

This convocation not only celebrates academic excellence but also heralds a new era of infrastructure and innovation at IIMC, preparing the next generation of media leaders for global challenges.
