New Delhi witnessed a solemn moment today as Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan led the nation in remembering Bharat Ratna Nanaji Deshmukh on his death anniversary. At the Vice President’s residence, Radhakrishnan offered floral tributes to the legendary social reformer, whose life was a beacon of service to the poorest of the poor.

In a heartfelt post on X, the Vice President reflected on Deshmukh’s unwavering commitment to ‘Antyodaya’ – the philosophy of uplifting society’s last man. ‘A social reformer and statesman, Nanaji Deshmukh dedicated his life to the welfare of the most marginalized,’ he wrote. Deshmukh played a pivotal role in Jayaprakash Narayan’s Total Revolution movement during the Emergency, tirelessly strengthening democratic values.

Radhakrishnan highlighted Deshmukh’s lifelong passion for rural development and social transformation. ‘He will always be cherished for his dedication to nation-building,’ the VP added, evoking memories of a man who turned ideals into action.

Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hailed Deshmukh as ‘Rashtra Rishi,’ crediting him for rural upliftment, education spread, and self-reliant communities. ‘Social service was his sadhana, not just a thought,’ Pradhan posted on X.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy remembered Deshmukh as an RSS pracharak with a visionary approach to rural progress and self-sufficient villages. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised his selfless service, noting how he transformed politics into a tool for public welfare and purity.

Deshmukh’s ‘Gramodaya to Rashtrodaya’ vision continues to inspire millions, reminding us that true leadership lies in simplicity and service. As the nation pauses to honor this giant, his legacy urges ongoing commitment to grassroots empowerment and national progress.
