A drawing teacher in Belgharia, West Bengal, was the victim of a violent assault after he protested against public alcohol consumption. The attack, which took place in the Nandanagar area of Kamarhati Municipality, resulted in serious injuries to the teacher, Nirupam Pal. The incident began when Pal, returning from a Kali Puja gathering, confronted a group drinking alcohol in public. In a separate incident, eight people died in a road accident on the Daniyawan-Hilsa road in Bihar. The accident occurred when an auto-rickshaw collided with a heavy vehicle. The victims, all from Reddy Malama village, were traveling to Fatuha for a religious ceremony.
