Ujjain, the ancient religious hub of Madhya Pradesh, is set to immerse itself in a month-long extravaganza honoring Emperor Vikramaditya. The Vikram Utsav, commencing this Sunday and culminating on March 19, promises a vibrant tapestry of religious fervor, cultural splendor, and commercial buzz.

In a recent review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the Madhya Pradesh government unveiled the full itinerary for this mega event. Kicking off the festivities, Shivratri fairs across the city will coincide with a sacred Kalash Yatra and a mesmerizing musical presentation titled ‘Shivoham’ by renowned artists.

From February 16 to 25, the Vikram Theatre Festival will showcase plays by national and international performers, bringing dramatic flair to the celebrations. The momentum builds with an International History Conference, Puppet Festival, and research symposium from February 26 to 28. Justice in Emperor Vikramaditya’s era takes center stage in an intellectual conclave from February 28 to March 1, followed by an All-India Poets’ Conference on March 7.

The festival’s highlights extend to an international mythological film festival featuring entries from over 20 countries, Vedic Antakshari competitions, and a sunrise puja at Ramghat and Datt Akhara on Gudi Padwa. The grand finale on March 19 marks Ujjayini Gaurav Diwas, celebrating the Vikram Samvat New Year.

Along the banks of the Shipra River, attendees will witness the conferment of Vikramaditya Awards, the release of Vikram Panchang 2082-83, the second edition of Arsha Bharat, and the dance-drama ‘Mahadev Ki Nadi Katha’.

Chief Minister Yadav emphasized ensuring a comprehensive portrayal of Vikramaditya’s multifaceted legacy. ‘It’s crucial to acquaint the new generation with his contributions to preserve our knowledge systems and cultural traditions,’ he stated. He also directed science colleges, engineering institutes, and polytechnics to highlight the emperor’s scientific innovations through dedicated programs.

This Vikram Utsav not only revives historical glory but also positions Ujjain as a beacon of cultural renaissance, drawing devotees, scholars, and tourists alike.
