CHENNAI: In a bold endorsement, TVK senior leader KA Sengottaiyan declared actor-turned-politician Vijay as the only leader capable of toppling Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK. Speaking at the inaugural workers’ meeting of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Mamallapuram on Sunday, Sengottaiyan highlighted Vijay’s unparalleled popularity that transcends party lines.
He emphasized that Vijay enjoys support from all political factions, with even voters from rival family-dominated parties like DMK drawn to his appeal. ‘Every party has votes for Vijay. Leaders and workers across the spectrum are eager to see him,’ Sengottaiyan said, dismissing immediate concerns over alliances. He confidently asserted that Vijay alone possesses the clout to dismantle coalitions of up to ten parties.
Urging caution during campaign efforts, the veteran leader advised workers against blowing whistles near sleeping people or the elderly, warning it could confuse them and cost precious votes. ‘Act with responsibility and vigilance,’ he stressed.
Sengottaiyan praised Vijay’s personal sacrifices, noting his decision to enter politics for public service, forgoing an annual income of 1000 crores. Having witnessed the rise of icons like MGR, he described Vijay’s political foray as extraordinary, driven by commitment rather than convenience.
The Mamallapuram event marked a milestone for TVK, being the first major organizational meet after securing its official poll symbol. Senior leaders including N. Anand participated, focusing on mobilizing cadres and charting future strategies. Vijay began the proceedings by paying floral tribute to martyrs of the historic language movement, reaffirming TVK’s commitment to linguistic pride and social justice. He showered flowers on senior policymakers on stage, acknowledging their role in shaping the party’s vision.
Vijay received a thunderous welcome with whistles and chants from enthusiastic volunteers, signaling strong grassroots energy ahead of Tamil Nadu’s political battles.
