India’s iconic national song, ‘Vande Mataram,’ is celebrating its 150th anniversary, a significant occasion that was highlighted by the Prime Minister’s powerful address. He characterized the song as a ‘mantra, energy, dream, and resolve,’ underscoring its profound influence on national consciousness. The Prime Minister stressed that ‘Vande Mataram’ represents deep devotion and worship for the motherland, continuing to inspire patriotism and pride across generations.

During a major commemorative event, the Prime Minister articulated his vision of the song’s impact, stating that the words themselves are a source of energy and motivation. He explained that ‘Vande Mataram’ guides the nation through history, instills confidence in the present, and bestows the courage to achieve any ambition, reiterating that no goal is beyond the reach of the Indian people.

He described the collective singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ as an experience that transcends verbal description. The unified chorus, with its single rhythm, tone, and emotion, generates a powerful surge of energy and a palpable wave of unity that resonates deeply within the hearts of those participating. This harmonious expression, he noted, creates an electrifying atmosphere.

November 7th was recognized as a historic date, marking the commencement of a year-long nationwide commemoration of the song’s 150th anniversary. The Prime Minister extended his felicitations to all citizens, predicting that this milestone will infuse millions with fresh vigor. He also paid profound respect to the numerous freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the ideals embodied in ‘Vande Mataram.’

The formal inauguration of the year-long celebration took place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, where the Prime Minister officially launched the commemoration. This included the release of a special stamp and coin, alongside the debut of a portal dedicated to the anniversary. The event was amplified by mass singing of the complete song in public spaces nationwide, complementing the central ceremony. Prominent leaders, including Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Delhi LG Vinai Saxena, were present to share in the national pride.

‘Vande Mataram,’ originally a Sanskrit poem penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1876 and later incorporated into his novel ‘Anandamath,’ has been a cornerstone of Indian nationalism. Its portrayal of India as a divine mother has made it a timeless symbol of patriotism and a key inspiration during the nation’s struggle for independence.
