In a significant development that has gripped Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has formally recommended a CBI investigation into the tragic murder of Ankita Bhandari. The 19-year-old receptionist at a resort in Rishikesh vanished last year, sparking outrage across the state.

Dhami’s announcement came during a press conference where he reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to delivering justice. ‘We are resolute in ensuring that the culprits behind this heinous crime face the full force of the law,’ he declared, addressing the mounting public pressure and protests demanding a central agency probe.

The case first made headlines when Ankita disappeared from the Vanantara resort owned by a former BJP leader. Her body was later recovered from a canal, leading to arrests including the resort’s owner, Pulkit Arya, his parents, and aide Saurabh Bhasker. Initial investigations by local police uncovered allegations of coercion and assault, fueling suspicions of a cover-up.

Despite multiple SIT probes and court interventions, questions linger over the investigation’s transparency. Families and activists have long called for CBI involvement, citing potential political interference. Dhami’s recommendation marks a pivotal shift, signaling the state machinery’s readiness to escalate the matter to the Centre.

Political rivals have welcomed the move but urged swift action. Congress leader Harish Rawat stated, ‘Better late than never, but the government must now expedite the process.’ Meanwhile, BJP workers emphasize the CM’s proactive stance amid the high-profile nature of the case.

As the file reaches Delhi, all eyes are on the Union Home Ministry’s response. For Ankita’s grieving family, who have endured over a year of uncertainty, this could be the breakthrough they’ve fought for. Uttarakhand’s administration vows no stone will be left unturned in pursuit of truth and accountability.
