Lucknow. Samajwadi Party has again suffered a big blow in UP. After Swami Prasad Maurya, now Salim Sherwani has also resigned from the post of General Secretary. Salim Sherwani has written a letter to SP President Akhilesh Yadav.
In the letter, Salim Sherwani said that being upset with the neglect of Muslims in the party, I am resigning from the post of General Secretary. I will take a decision regarding the future soon. In a letter to Akhilesh Yadav, he said that Muslims are constantly feeling neglected and no Muslim was sent to the Rajya Sabha elections either. Of course my name was not considered, but a Muslim should also have got this seat.
He said that Muslims are looking for a true leader, I feel that while being in SP, I cannot bring much change in the condition of Muslims. Salim Sherwani has alleged that the way you took the name of your PDA but looking at the list of candidates in Rajya Sabha, it seems that you yourself do not give any importance to PDA.
Regarding the opposition alliance, Sherwani said, “Efforts to form a strong opposition alliance are proving futile and no one seems serious about it. “It seems that the opposition is more interested in fighting each other than fighting the wrong policies of the ruling party.”

Regarding secularism, he said that secularism has become cosmetic. Muslims in India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, have never asked for anything other than their right to live a life with equality, dignity and security. But this demand of the party also seems very big. The party has no answer to our demand.
Therefore I feel that I cannot bring any change in the condition of my community with my current position in SP. In this situation, I am submitting my resignation as National General Secretary of the party. I will take a decision about my political future within the next few weeks.
