Rahul Gandhi filed nomination from Rae Bareli

Rae Bareli: Rahul Gandhi filed nomination for Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh. History is repeating once again in Congress stronghold Rae Bareli. Rahul Gandhi has been made the candidate from Rae Bareli. Rahul Gandhi along with his mother Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reached Rae Bareli election office and filed nomination. Rahul Gandhi will now carry the legacy of his mother Sonia Gandhi.

Ending days of suspense, the party this morning announced that Rahul Gandhi will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Rae Bareli seat, which was earlier the constituency of his mother Sonia Gandhi.

Today is the last date for filing nominations for the seats for which voting will be held on May 20 in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections being held in 7 phases. Voting for Amethi and Rae Bareli seats will be held on May 20 only. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.

Actually, Firoz Gandhi first contested and won the elections in 1952. He also won in 1958. After this Indira Gandhi started her political journey. In his absence, Sonia has been MP from here 5 times. Now Rahul Gandhi is going to take over the legacy of the Gandhi family.

Congress has won 16 times

Congress party has won the parliamentary seat of Rae Bareli district 16 times. Ashok Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party has won twice. Rajnarayan of Janata Party has won once. BSP and SP have not even been able to open accounts here yet. Presently Sonia Gandhi is the MP here.
