High Court approves bail of former MP Dhananjay Singh, refuses to stay sentence, will not be able to contest elections

Prayagraj. Allahabad High Court has approved the bail of former Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh, but has refused to stay his sentence. Because of this he will not be able to contest Lok Sabha elections. Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh gave this decision at 12 o’clock on Saturday. The decision was reserved on Thursday.

The MP-MLA Special Court of Jaunpur has sentenced the former MP and another to seven years imprisonment for the kidnapping of Namami Gange Project Manager. In the criminal revision appeal filed against this decision, a demand has been made to cancel the sentence. The former MP said that he should be released on bail along with postponing the sentencing order till the appeal is resolved. On behalf of the state government, the lawyers had given information about the criminal cases of Delhi Lucknow along with the cases which were not added to the criminal history of Dhananjay Singh.

He said that trial is going on in many cases, in such a situation it would not be appropriate to grant bail, while Dhananjay Singh’s lawyer said that he has been falsely implicated due to political malice. The three witnesses, two government employees and one project employee, were pressurized into giving false testimony, yet the prosecution could not prove its case in the trial court.
