Fake arrest case: High Court orders investigation against SP

Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar has been directed by the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court to conduct an investigation in the case of fake arrest of a student. Rae Bareli SP is accused of fake arrest of the student. This arrest was made by the SP through his subordinates under the guise of a theft case.

The court also directed the DGP to constitute an SIT to investigate the incident. The court sought a report from the SIT within two months and fixed the hearing of the case on July 3, 2024. DGP Kumar said he has directed Additional Director General (ADG), Law and Order, Amitabh Yash to form an SIT under the leadership of a senior IPS officer above the rank of SP as per the directions of the High Court. He said that the concerned officials have been asked to submit the report within two months.

This order has been given by the division bench of Justice Vivek Chaudhary and Justice Narendra Kumar Johri on the petition of an elderly woman Gomti Mishra. The petitioner claimed that his son was arrested by the police on the intervening night of March 30 and March 31. Records show him being arrested a day later in a theft case. She also alleged that her son, who has no criminal record, was falsely implicated in a theft case because he had refused to hand over his taxi to Rae Bareli SP Abhishek Aggarwal.
