In a major relief for eligible voters across Uttar Pradesh, the deadline for filing claims and objections in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll has been extended by one month. This decision ensures no eligible citizen misses out on their voting rights ahead of crucial elections.
State Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa announced the extension on Friday, pushing the cutoff from February 6 to March 6. Citizens can now use this window to add their names, make corrections, or request deletions from the voter list using Form-6, Form-7, or Form-6A for overseas Indians.
The move comes after an overwhelming response, with over 37.8 lakh Form-6 applications received so far for new registrations. Another 82,684 Form-7 applications seek deletions. Rinwa highlighted that many first-time voters, previously missing from the rolls, are now coming forward.
During the mapping process, logical discrepancies were detected in about 1.04 crore voters, temporarily excluding them from the draft list. Notices are being issued to 3.26 crore voters in total, with 2.37 crore already generated, 86 lakh delivered, and hearings completed in 30.3 lakh cases.
All notices will be resolved by March 27, paving the way for the final voter list publication on April 10. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be available daily from 10 AM to 12 PM at polling stations to assist voters. The Election Commission’s goal remains a clean, updated, transparent, and error-free electoral roll, empowering every eligible UP resident to exercise their franchise.
