In a decisive move ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a comprehensive campaign to ensure dignity, safety, and convenience for schoolgirls across the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives have set the wheels in motion for 42 districts, including Unnao, Kanpur Nagar, Raebareli, Ayodhya, and Rampur, where all government schools will have fully operational toilets.

Chief Secretary SP Goyal, during a high-level review meeting, emphasized that every school toilet must be ready for use by the deadline. It’s not just about completing construction; the focus is on maintaining cleanliness, regular upkeep, water supply, electricity where needed, and secure doors. Special attention is being paid to separate, safe facilities exclusively for girl students.

Officials believe this initiative will boost girls’ attendance, provide comfort during menstruation, and reduce dropout rates significantly. As Women’s Day approaches, this step symbolizes the government’s commitment to creating a respectful educational environment for daughters.

To monitor progress, schools must upload clear photos of toilets—inside and out—on the Prerna portal. This real-time tracking will leave no room for negligence at any level. District Magistrates, Chief Development Officers, and Basic Education Officers are tasked with physical verifications and launching special drives.

Where repairs or water connections are required, work must start immediately. The government has warned of strict action against officials failing to meet the March 8 deadline, while ensuring budgets and resources are readily available. This campaign strengthens basic infrastructure and embodies women’s empowerment at the grassroots level.
