In a series of intense confrontations late last night, Uttar Pradesh police engaged in fierce gun battles with criminals in Bulandshahr and Kanpur, resulting in the arrest of four notorious offenders. The operations underscore the state’s relentless crackdown on crime, with rewards announced for some of the captured suspects.
The first encounter unfolded at Aligarh Chowk in Bulandshahr around midnight. Anupshahr police were conducting routine vehicle checks when three suspects on a motorcycle sped towards them from Bulandshahr direction. Ignoring stop signals, the trio accelerated away, prompting a high-speed chase. Near Karnavas Road, their bike skidded out of control. Cornered, the criminals opened fire on the pursuing officers.
Police responded with precision, injuring two of the assailants. All three were swiftly apprehended. Identified as Honey Verma and Anuj Verma from Muradabad district, and Arvind Nishad from Gorakhpur, the gang had active cases in Anupshahr, including a recent extortion of one lakh rupees from a victim last year. Authorities recovered illegal firearms and the motorcycle from their possession. Each carried a bounty of Rs 25,000.
Meanwhile, in Kanpur’s Rawatpur area, another midnight showdown left one criminal wounded in the leg. Niyaz Ahmad alias Chhutkan from Gonda district confessed to snatching a gold chain from an elderly woman in Keshavpuram on January 8. A country-made pistol, cartridges, and cash were seized from him. Two accomplices escaped amid the gunfire, but police vowed to track them down.
Senior officers hailed the operations as a major boost to public safety. Further interrogations are underway to dismantle any larger networks. These back-to-back successes highlight UP Police’s zero-tolerance approach to organized crime, reassuring citizens across the region.
