Mumbai’s political landscape shifted dramatically as the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance clinched a decisive victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections and other key municipal polls across Maharashtra. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju celebrated the triumph, underscoring the robust partnership between BJP and Shiv Sena.
Speaking to reporters, Rijiju attributed the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde in the state. ‘The inclusion of Ajit Pawar has further strengthened this alliance, earning widespread public approval,’ he stated.
In the BMC alone, with 227 seats at stake, Mahayuti secured 118 – surpassing the majority mark by four seats. The rival alliance of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction and MNS lagged far behind, marking a significant setback.
Turning to national priorities, Rijiju announced that the Parliament session commences January 28, with the Union Budget 2026 presentation slated for February 1. ‘Every budget under PM Modi meticulously considers society’s needs, the nation’s growth, and its future. No governmental initiative lacks thorough planning and execution,’ he emphasized.
Rijiju praised the Modi government’s decision-making since 2014, insisting every policy and budget allocation reflects deep deliberation. ‘From flagship schemes to fiscal strategies, precision defines our approach,’ he added.
On queries regarding the SIR process in West Bengal, the minister remained tight-lipped, saying, ‘We’ll address it at the appropriate time.’
This victory bolsters Mahayuti’s dominance in Maharashtra’s urban governance, setting the stage for aligned development agendas ahead of the national budget.
