Hapur, January 28: Tensions are rising across India as general category students and upper caste communities voice fierce opposition to the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) latest regulations. Renowned spiritual leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has labeled the decision as deeply divisive, arguing it threatens national unity at a critical juncture.

In an exclusive conversation with IANS in Hapur, Acharya Pramod Krishnam stated, ‘Any policy that fragments society along caste or class lines is unacceptable and detrimental to the nation’s progress.’ He emphasized India’s trajectory toward becoming a global leader, or ‘Vishwaguru,’ cautioning that internal divisions could derail this ambition. ‘I haven’t reviewed the new rules in detail yet,’ he added, ‘but once I do, I’ll share a more comprehensive view.’

The controversy intensifies amid broader debates on equity in higher education. Jagadguru Swami Narendraanand Saraswati, another prominent voice, slammed the UGC norms as ‘completely wrong and unjust.’ He advocated for a uniform education policy to foster true equality, warning that caste-based provisions could ignite conflicts nationwide.

Swami Narendraanand highlighted a particularly alarming clause: ‘Even false complaints against individuals won’t face repercussions, opening doors to misuse.’ With youth unemployment rampant despite higher qualifications, he urged policies prioritizing job creation and self-reliance. ‘These rules serve neither the country nor humanity—they must be scrapped immediately,’ he declared.

Acharya Pramod also touched on a recent controversy involving Swami Avimukteshwaranand, advising local police to exercise restraint while urging the Shankaracharya to maintain composure. ‘In a government rooted in Sanatan values, saints deserve respect, but restraint is mutual,’ he noted.

As protests gain momentum, the UGC’s directives hang in balance, raising urgent questions about balancing affirmative action with national cohesion. Stakeholders await clearer guidelines, but the chorus of dissent underscores a pivotal moment for India’s education landscape.
