Agartala witnessed a significant milestone in public safety as Chief Minister Manik Saha announced an impressive 8.20% decline in Tripura’s overall crime rate for 2025 compared to the previous year. Speaking at the Tripura Police Week function in Arundhati Nagar on the outskirts of the city, Saha highlighted the state’s proactive measures in law enforcement.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to bolstering police capabilities through modern technology. Efforts to eradicate ganja cultivation and trafficking are being intensified, with advanced tools playing a pivotal role. ‘Police Week honors the dedication, service, and sacrifices of our officers, many of whom laid down their lives in the line of duty,’ Saha remarked.
He praised the Tripura Police for their relentless efforts that have dramatically improved law and order. ‘Your commitment ensures people feel secure. I congratulate everyone on this success,’ he added. Noting the force’s 150-year legacy, Saha positioned it among India’s oldest police units.
Criminals are evolving with new technology, Saha warned, urging police to upgrade skills accordingly. ‘Files for advanced training have been initiated, and the government will provide all necessary support,’ he assured. As Home Minister, he revealed key statistics: 3,698 cases registered in 2025 versus 4,033 in 2024.
Property crimes fell by nearly 16%, crimes against the body by 14.54%, and offenses against women by 8.1%. Women’s safety remains a priority, with 24/7 help desks at every police station and nine exclusive women police stations across the state. Traffic safety initiatives include a zero-accident program, identifying 16 black spots and 84 accident-prone zones, with interceptor vehicles deployed district-wide.
Road accidents decreased by 8.82% and fatalities by 13% in 2025. On drugs, Saha reiterated the zero-tolerance policy, noting surges in NDPS cases, seizures, and destructions. Ganja plant eradication rose 94.71%, with drugs worth Rs 1,641.89 crore destroyed. Border security efforts apprehended 576 illegal intruders and 102 agents.
Saha announced modernization of cyber police stations and recruitment drives: 953 constables already hired (318 women), with 916 more and 218 sub-inspectors upcoming. Senior police and civil administration officials attended the event.
