In a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the quiet town of Tendukheda in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district, the bodies of a 35-year-old woman and her six-month-old son were recovered from a well on Saturday morning. Local authorities have launched a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.

The grim discovery was made in Ward No. 1 under the jurisdiction of the local municipal corporation. A municipal worker first spotted the bodies floating in the well and immediately alerted the police. Officers rushed to the scene, retrieving the remains with the help of residents and sending them for post-mortem examination.

The deceased have been identified as Jayanti Kevat, a resident of Jharoli village in Damoh, and her infant son Devansh. Jayanti had recently returned to her maternal home in Tendukheda to attend the terahvi ceremony of her brother, who had passed away just days earlier.

Preliminary inquiries reveal a tragic backstory. Jayanti had reportedly lost two other children previously and had been battling health issues for several years. She was last seen alive on Friday evening near her house, prompting a search when she went missing.

Damoh’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer Archana Ahir confirmed that the post-mortem has been conducted, but the exact cause of death awaits further forensic analysis. ‘We are investigating all angles,’ she stated, emphasizing the ongoing probe into what appears to be a deeply personal tragedy.

The community is reeling from the shock, with neighbors recalling Jayanti as a devoted mother now lost in unimaginable circumstances. As police delve deeper, questions linger about mental health support and the vulnerabilities faced by families in rural India. This incident underscores the urgent need for accessible counseling and crisis intervention services in such areas.
