New Delhi witnessed a swift crackdown by Delhi Police on a brazen theft at the high-security Azadpur Metro depot of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Three individuals have been apprehended, with authorities recovering a significant haul of stolen copper wire and other materials.

The incident came to light on Thursday morning when CISF personnel spotted a suspicious figure on CCTV footage around 10 AM in the restricted depot area. Alerted immediately, local police launched a thorough investigation, revealing the theft of 100 meters of signaling cable from the housing block, 60 meters of machine cable, several check plates, and a water motor.

Leveraging CCTV analysis, technical surveillance, and persistent probing, officers zeroed in on prime suspect Ali Ahmad, a 25-year-old resident of Jahangirpuri. Interrogation led to the arrest of his accomplice Sanwar, 24, also from the same locality. Further questioning during a day-long police remand uncovered that the duo had offloaded the loot to scrap dealer Baksud Hussain, 66, who was promptly nabbed.

In a major recovery, police seized 50 meters of copper wire from the accused. DCP Metro Kushal Pal Singh confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with teams probing potential links to prior thefts across the Delhi Metro network.

Metro officials commended the police action, vowing stricter measures to safeguard the vital infrastructure. This case underscores the vulnerabilities in even the most secure facilities and the effectiveness of coordinated security responses in urban transit systems.
