Hyderabad: As the vibrant festival of Sankranti approaches, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced a massive boost to public transportation. To accommodate the surge in travel demand, TGSRTC will operate 6,431 special bus services across the state during the festive period.
Sankranti, marking the harvest season, sees millions of people traveling to their hometowns to celebrate with family and friends. This year, TGSRTC is gearing up to ensure seamless connectivity, especially to popular rural and district destinations. The special services will commence from January 11 and continue through January 16, covering peak travel days.
Key routes from Hyderabad to districts like Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda, and Mahabubnagar will witness the highest number of additional buses. Interstate services to neighboring states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra are also being enhanced. Officials estimate this fleet will transport over 10 lakh passengers, easing the pressure on regular services.
TGSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar highlighted the corporation’s commitment to passenger safety and comfort. ‘All special buses will be equipped with GPS tracking, CCTV surveillance, and trained drivers. We urge passengers to book tickets online via the TGSRTC app or website to avoid queues,’ he stated.
This initiative comes at a time when road travel remains the preferred mode for many during festivals, given the limitations of rail and air connectivity. Last year, TGSRTC operated over 5,000 special buses, ferrying 8.5 lakh passengers successfully. The corporation aims to surpass these figures in 2024 with improved fleet readiness.
Passengers are advised to check the official TGSRTC website or helpline 1800-2000-418 for real-time updates on schedules and availability. With advance bookings already open, festival-goers are encouraged to plan their journeys early.
As Telangana buzzes with preparations for kite-flying, bonfires, and traditional feasts, TGSRTC’s extensive bus network promises to keep the celebrations connected and hassle-free.
