In a heartbreaking incident from Warangal district, Telangana, a female police constable named Anita ended her life after enduring relentless harassment from two men. The 30-year-old officer, posted with the Warangal Police Commissioner’s Armed Reserve Division, consumed pesticide at her residence in Sithya Tanda, Parvatagiri Mandal, on January 27.
Preliminary police investigations reveal a tangled web of broken promises and vengeful actions. Rajendra, a resident of Komnapalli Tanda in Thorrur Mandal, Mahbubabad district, had been pressuring Anita for marriage over the past four years. During her duty hours, he allegedly bombarded her with video calls, accusing her of talking to other men. Fed up, Anita confided in her parents, who firmly refused any alliance with him.
Anita soon grew close to another young man from her circle. When Rajendra learned of their marriage plans, fury took over. In retaliation, he contacted the man, spewing venom about Anita. This sparked a chain reaction—the man began tormenting her too, demanding money to marry her.
Trapped between these two aggressors, Anita’s mental health deteriorated rapidly. On the day of the incident, she called Rajendra, pouring out her grievances and threatening suicide. His alleged dismissive responses pushed her over the edge. Rushed to the hospital by family, she succumbed to the poison.
Police have registered cases against both men under relevant sections. This tragedy underscores the urgent need for better mental health support within law enforcement ranks and stricter measures against harassment. Authorities are probing deeper, vowing justice for Anita’s family.
