New Delhi is buzzing with patriotic fervor as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) launches the ambitious ‘Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026’. Kicked off virtually from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on January 28, this 25-day endurance challenge aims to bolster coastal security while igniting national pride.

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, fresh from Delhi airport, shared an enthusiastic video message endorsing the event. ‘From January 28 to February 22, the CISF’s Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon is underway. My best wishes to all teams,’ he said, urging everyone to join in. CISF highlighted Raina’s words on X, calling the cyclothon a symbol of discipline, dedication, and resolve.

Raina praised the CISF personnel’s tireless efforts in raising awareness about India’s maritime security. He drew parallels between athletic excellence and national service, emphasizing how such initiatives strengthen the nation’s defenses.

The event commemorates 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’. Two CISF cycling teams departed simultaneously from Bakkhali in West Bengal and Lakhpat in Gujarat. They will cover approximately 6,500 kilometers along eastern and western coasts, traversing 9 coastal states and 2 union territories, culminating in Kochi on February 22, 2026.

Union Home Minister of State Nityanand Rai flagged off the cyclothon as chief guest. Beyond fitness promotion, the cyclothon sensitizes coastal communities to threats like drug, arms, and explosives smuggling. It fosters partnerships between locals and security agencies, honors freedom fighters and martyrs, celebrates India’s maritime heritage, and spotlights fishermen’s contributions.

This landmark initiative not only promotes healthy lifestyles among youth but also reinforces vigilance along India’s vast coastline, ensuring a safer tomorrow.
