The Supreme Court has ruled in the Nitish Katara murder case, issuing directives concerning the release of convicts. The court has ordered the immediate release of Sukhdev Yadav, who had already served his sentence. The court’s ruling on Tuesday mandated that all states and union territories release any prisoners whose sentences had been fully served, without hesitation. The court has instructed authorities to ascertain whether any convicts are still imprisoned beyond the duration of their sentences.

If a convict has completed the term of their sentence and is not a suspect in any other case, the Supreme Court has stipulated that they must be released immediately.
