New Delhi witnessed a significant political meeting as Maharashtra’s newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, widow of the late Ajit Pawar, paid courtesy visits to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Accompanied by her two sons and NCP senior leader Praful Patel, Sunetra’s Delhi trip marks her first official engagement post her swearing-in on January 31.
The meetings, held on February 11, underscore the close ties between Maharashtra’s leadership and the central government. Sunetra shared photographs of her interaction with PM Modi on social media, describing it as a protocol visit. In a separate post, she highlighted her meeting with Amit Shah, emphasizing her new role.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded warmly on X, acknowledging the void left by Ajit Pawar’s passing in Maharashtra politics. He praised Sunetra’s resolve to carry forward Ajit Pawar’s vision for public welfare and state development, stating it would be invaluable.
Just a day earlier, on February 10, Sunetra assumed charge at the Mantralaya, flanked by NCP leaders including Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, Hasan Mushrif, and Narhari Zirwal. During the ceremony, she vowed unwavering dedication to Maharashtra’s progress, drawing inspiration from her late husband’s lifelong commitment.
Allocated portfolios in Sports and Youth Welfare, Excise Duty, and Minority Affairs, Sunetra participated in her first cabinet meeting as Deputy CM on Tuesday. In an emotional social media post, she expressed being filled with faith, duty, and sacrifice, prioritizing the fulfillment of Ajit Pawar’s dreams and aspirations of farmers, women, youth, and common citizens.
This development signals a new chapter in Maharashtra’s political landscape, with Sunetra Pawar stepping into a pivotal role amid ongoing alliances and state governance challenges. Her meetings with top central leaders suggest strong support from New Delhi as she navigates her responsibilities.
