In a shocking incident at a private homeopathy college in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, a student allegedly assaulted an assistant professor who caught him cheating during an exam. The confrontation unfolded on Friday during an internal assessment for Homoeopathic Materia Medica.
Eyewitnesses report that the student, identified as Shahbaz, was furtively using his mobile phone to copy answers. Assistant Professor Shivraj Kumar, overseeing the exam hall, spotted the misconduct and immediately confronted him. When Shahbaz refused to comply, the professor seized his answer sheet and ordered him to leave the room.
Enraged by the rebuke, the student lashed out physically at the professor. Chaos briefly ensued in the classroom as fellow students watched in disbelief. College authorities swiftly informed Shahbaz’s parents about the grave misconduct and barred him from upcoming examinations.
No formal police complaint has been filed yet by the college management or the injured professor. Local police stated they would initiate action if a report is submitted. This event underscores growing concerns over student discipline and exam integrity in educational institutions.
Similar violent outbursts have plagued Karnataka’s education sector recently. Just last October, authorities in Chikkamagaluru arrested a laborer for attacking a school teacher on her way home. In another case from Kollar district, an auto driver stormed a classroom and shoved a teacher after she questioned his son’s absenteeism.
These recurring attacks highlight the urgent need for stronger safeguards for educators. Experts call for counseling programs, stricter anti-cheating measures, and community awareness to prevent such escalations. As investigations continue, the academic community awaits justice and preventive reforms.
