MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has condemned the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which proposes the removal of elected officials, including the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers, if arrested for 30 days. He stated that the bill undermines the Constitution and its democratic tenets. Stalin called for a unified front of democratic forces to resist the perceived authoritarian direction of the bill. In his statements on social media, he described the bill as an instance of dictatorial governance, highlighting the potential for suppression of rivals and state autonomy. Stalin accused the Union BJP Government of aiming to subvert the Constitution. He contended that the bill is a method to distract from the issues of electoral integrity and mandate legitimacy. He further explained that the bill would permit the BJP to frame political opponents, allowing their removal without trial. He believed the courts would challenge the constitutionality of the amendment. Stalin added that the bill aims to coerce regional parties within the NDA, warning of a potential descent into dictatorship.
