An army officer is facing charges of ‘murderous assault’ following a violent incident at Srinagar airport on July 26, 2025, in which four SpiceJet employees were injured. The altercation occurred at the boarding gate of flight SG-386 when the officer was informed that his cabin bag exceeded the 7 kg weight limit.

Angered by the information, the officer physically assaulted the airline staff, punching and kicking them repeatedly, even after one employee lost consciousness. The assault resulted in severe injuries, including spinal and jaw injuries, among the staff.

Before the assault, the officer had two pieces of cabin baggage weighing 16 kg, more than double the permitted limit. When asked to pay the charges, he refused and attempted to enter the aerobridge without proper boarding, violating aviation security rules. He was escorted back to the gate, where he then attacked four members of the SpiceJet ground staff.

Local authorities have been notified, with an FIR filed. SpiceJet is taking steps to place the officer on the no-fly list and has reported the incident to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, requesting appropriate action. CCTV footage of the event has been provided to the police.
