Lucknow, February 27: Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad has voiced deep concern over the deteriorating state of the sacred Saryu River, attributing its plight directly to flawed government policies. In an exclusive interview, he lamented that the river, revered as ‘Saryu Maa’ in ancient texts, now faces an existential threat, with its flow shifting perilously towards Gonda district.
Prasad painted a stark picture of the current scenario at Ram Ki Paidi in Ayodhya, where not a single drop of natural water remains. ‘Handpumps are being used to artificially fill the ghats,’ he revealed, squarely blaming the BJP-led administration. ‘This government thrives on empty promises with no connection to reality, showing utter disregard for public welfare.’
Highlighting historical significance, the MP demanded the official renaming of the Ghaghara River to Saryu, as mentioned in the Puranas. ‘If this government fails to act, our Samajwadi regime will rename it within 24 hours of coming to power and elevate its stature,’ he assured.
He urged immediate action to redirect the river’s course back to Ayodhya to facilitate pilgrim bathing without hindrance. Prasad also reignited his criticism of bulldozer actions in Ayodhya, vowing to raise the issue repeatedly in Parliament and consult party leader Akhilesh Yadav. ‘These actions violate Ayodhya’s dignity and strip people of their homes and lands,’ he charged, promising to inform the nation.
