In a horrifying incident that has stunned residents of Badlapur in Maharashtra’s Thane district, a 36-year-old man allegedly tried to strangle his own mother to death over a petty mobile phone dispute. The accused, identified as Milind Narayan Trader, a local businessman, flew into a rage suspecting his mother of deleting a recorded conversation with his wife. Ulhasnagar Crime Branch arrested him just three days after the brutal attack.

The nightmare unfolded around 2 a.m. in a modest apartment in Kulgaon, Badlapur East. The victim’s husband, Nand Narayan Trader, and their minor grandson were asleep in the hall when Milind burst into his parents’ room. He woke his mother abruptly and accused her of tampering with his phone’s recording. What started as a heated argument quickly escalated into violence.

Eyewitness accounts from the family reveal that Milind slapped his mother, hurled abuses, and then turned on his father. He shoved the elderly man onto the bed, stuffed a vest into his mouth, and squeezed his throat with brute force, intent on murder. The father struggled desperately, calling for help, which forced the son to flee the scene.

Nand Narayan wasted no time and rushed to Badlapur East Police Station to file a complaint. Officers registered a case under IPC sections for attempt to murder (307), voluntarily causing hurt (323), intentional insult (504), criminal intimidation (506), and related charges. A massive manhunt ensued, with police laying traps across the area.

Acting on a tip-off, a dedicated team from Ulhasnagar Crime Branch, led by Constable Ramdas Ugale and including officers Shirrang Gosavi, Mangesh Jadhav, Chandrakant Sawant, and Ritesh Vanjari, tracked down Milind and took him into custody. He has been remanded to judicial custody as investigations deepen.

Authorities are now probing the mobile recording at the heart of the dispute, underlying family tensions, and the suspect’s mental health. This chilling case underscores the devastating impact of domestic conflicts when they turn violent, leaving a community in shock and prompting calls for better family counseling services in the region.
