Following his arrest, Ladakhi activist Sonam Wangchuk has been placed in a high-security ward in Jodhpur jail. The arrest came after violent protests in Ladakh, where demonstrators were calling for statehood and constitutional protections. The protests resulted in four deaths and 90 people injured. Authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Leh district. After the formalities at Leh airport, Wangchuk was transported to Jodhpur via a special flight, escorted by security vehicles. He underwent a medical examination and is now under 24-hour CCTV surveillance within the high-security ward.
