GUNTUR: Union Minister for Communications and Northeast Development Jyotiraditya Scindia addressed over 9,000 rural postal workers at a Grameen Dak Sevak conference here on Friday, hailing Andhra Pradesh as the frontline in India Post’s sweeping modernization drive.
Standing alongside Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Scindia described the event as deeply emotional. He reminisced about their decades-long bond, noting Naidu’s collaborations with his grandmother Vijaya Raje Scindia and father Madhavrao Scindia.
Scindia highlighted a small town in Andhra Pradesh named ‘Sindhia,’ linking it to his family’s legacy. He revealed that his great-grandfather pioneered shipping and shipbuilding along the Andhra coast before independence.
Praising rural dak sevaks as the shining jewels of Mother India, Scindia said they best understand villagers’ struggles and aspirations. These dedicated workers serve tirelessly from the snowy peaks of Jammu-Kashmir and Uttarakhand to Andhra’s coastal regions, bridging trust between government and the people in over 6.5 lakh villages.
Recalling his earlier tenure, Scindia listed initiatives like allowances for umbrellas, shoes, stationery, and bicycles for GDS staff. In 2009, he secured gazette notification granting their children admission rights to Kendriya Vidyalayas.
India Post’s vast network manages over 38 crore savings accounts, mobilizing nearly Rs 22 lakh crore, a testament to public trust, he noted.
Under PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Reform, Perform, Transform’ vision, India Post is being fortified for the future. With Andhra’s booming economy, the state will lead the parcel revolution amid surging agri-exports, MSMEs, and e-commerce. Boasting 1.65 lakh post offices, India Post stands strong in competition, Scindia asserted.
