Saraikela, Jharkhand – The announcement of the Padma Bhushan award for late Jharkhand Chief Minister and tribal icon Shibu Soren has sparked widespread joy across the state. However, in a bold statement, his sister Sukhi Tudu has elevated the conversation, asserting that Soren’s monumental contributions far surpass this honor and merit India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna.

Speaking to the media, Tudu expressed pride in the government’s recognition but emphasized that it falls short of Soren’s legacy. ‘We are all proud of the Padma Bhushan, but my brother’s lifelong dedication to Jharkhand and tribal welfare demands nothing less than the Bharat Ratna,’ she declared.

Tudu recounted Soren’s early days, wandering through forests to educate and unite tribal communities against exploitative moneylenders and feudal lords. From childhood, she witnessed his unwavering commitment to social service, a passion that defined his life.

Shibu Soren was more than a politician; he became the symbol of tribal identity, fighting relentlessly for rights over water, forests, and land, while championing social justice. Tudu highlighted the long-standing demand from Jharkhand’s people to honor their ‘Dishom Guru’ with the Bharat Ratna, citing his life as a testament to sacrifice and struggle.

She also shared family insights, noting their mother’s active role in social work and how Soren, among five siblings, devoted the most to societal upliftment. This award has reignited national discussions on his enduring impact, with supporters growing vocal in their push for the top honor.

As Jharkhand celebrates, the call for Bharat Ratna underscores Soren’s irreplaceable role in shaping the state’s tribal movement and political landscape. His story continues to inspire, reminding us of the power of grassroots leadership.
