A night curfew has been implemented in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, affecting areas within 2 kilometers of the international border. The District Magistrate of Samba issued an order mandating the curfew to support the Border Security Force (BSF) operations and enhance security measures. The curfew will be in effect from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM every night for the next two months.
This area is frequently used by terrorists operating from Pakistan to infiltrate into the Jammu region. The administration’s decision stems from discussions with various stakeholders, emphasizing the need to bolster security. The night curfew is designed to support the BSF’s efforts and to strengthen the security infrastructure in the region.
The curfew will be in force daily from 10 PM to 5 AM, extending for two months, subject to earlier revocation. The decision was made in collaboration with security agencies to improve border surveillance and control nighttime civilian movement, thus deterring illicit activities.
Permitted movement during the curfew will be restricted to valid reasons only, and identification must be provided to BSF or police officials upon request. Violations of the order will result in legal consequences. Previously, a night curfew was enforced in this border region, which neighbors Pakistan, until the first week of January.
In another development, two corroded mortar shells were found on Tuesday in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, along the Line of Control (LoC). The shells were safely neutralized by security forces. The discovery occurred during a routine patrol near the forward posts on the LoC in the Balnoi area of the Mendhar belt. The area was cordoned off, and the bomb disposal squad was called in, which subsequently disposed of the shells safely.
