A major security lapse has been discovered at the Red Fort in Delhi, just weeks before the Independence Day celebrations on August 15th. In response, seven police officers, including constables and head constables, have been suspended. The Delhi Police conducts daily drills to bolster security measures in preparation for the Independence Day festivities.

A special cell team participated in an exercise on Saturday, where they entered the Red Fort complex with a dummy bomb, posing as civilians. The police officers on duty failed to detect the simulated explosive, which resulted in their suspension.

The fact that the Special Cell team was able to enter the Red Fort with a dummy bomb highlights several security vulnerabilities. Recognizing the gravity of this lapse, the Deputy Commissioner swiftly took action and suspended the seven police officers responsible.

According to Deputy Commissioner Raja Banthia, the mock drill was designed to evaluate the existing security arrangements ahead of the August 15th event. The ease with which the team was able to access the fort raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of the security protocols. This is especially concerning, considering the Prime Minister’s annual address from the Red Fort, attended by a large number of dignitaries and members of the public.

The incident has caused a heightened state of alert within the police and security agencies. The Deputy Commissioner has instructed officials to conduct an immediate review of security measures and devise a revised plan. Furthermore, directives have been issued to strengthen security perimeters, re-evaluate personnel deployment, and integrate advanced technical resources.

The Red Fort is known to be a potential target for terrorists and other malicious actors. During significant national events like Independence Day, the entire capital city is placed on high alert. Any security lapse could pose a severe threat to national security. Alongside the suspensions, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the suspended police officers.

Separately, the Delhi Police have apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals who attempted to forcefully enter the Red Fort complex. These individuals are illegal immigrants, aged approximately 20-25, and working as laborers in Delhi. The police have recovered certain Bangladeshi documents from their possession. Further investigation is currently underway.
