Agartala witnessed a major boost to its infrastructure on Friday as Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, overseeing Northeast development and communications, unveiled and laid foundation stones for eight crucial projects totaling Rs 365 crore. These initiatives promise to revolutionize road connectivity, tourism, energy access, and tribal area development across the state.

Speaking at the event, Scindia highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ashtalakshmi’ vision, transforming Northeast India from a mere border region into a powerhouse of national growth. ‘The Northeast is no longer just geography; it’s the engine driving India’s progress,’ he asserted.

Among the five completed projects inaugurated, worth Rs 270 crore, standout achievements include the Jatanbari-Mandirghat via Tirthamukh road (13.775 km) and the upgrade of Erarpar to Ambase KA Road (28.90 km). These vital links will ease travel between villages, markets, schools, and hospitals, injecting fresh energy into local economies.

The Gandachera-Raishyabari-Narikel Kunja road (8 km) stands out for connecting tribal hamlets to district headquarters and essential services, fostering greater social inclusion and improved access to opportunities.

Scindia emphasized how enhanced connectivity from Amarpur (Fatiksagar) to Chhabimura will unlock Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential. Visitors will now explore ancient rock carvings and natural wonders more easily, boosting incomes for local guides, artisans, and families.

Under the PM-DEVINE scheme, a solar micro-grid project will deliver clean, reliable power to remote areas, empowering education, healthcare, and livelihoods in the most inaccessible corners.

In a forward-looking move, the minister laid foundation stones for three new Rs 95 crore projects: Kowaiprung (Panjirai) to Karbuk road (9.10 km), Jampui to Kangrai road, and Burighat to Seramun-II road. These will ensure seamless connectivity in hilly and interior regions, integrating far-flung areas into the mainstream development fold.

Reflecting on the past decade, Scindia noted that the Central government has invested over Rs 6.5 lakh crore in the Northeast, with every ministry allocating 10% of its budget to the region. This strategic push has set the area on an unprecedented growth trajectory.

Praising Chief Minister Prof. Manik Saha’s leadership, Scindia credited the strong Centre-state synergy for Tripura’s strides in social, economic, and infrastructural advancements, setting new benchmarks for the nation.
