Mumbai’s political corridors are buzzing after Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut issued a scathing condemnation of the recent mishandling of Jyotish Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati at Prayagraj’s Magh Mela. Calling it a direct affront to Hindutva, Raut didn’t hold back in criticizing those who claim to champion Hindu values.

The incident, where the revered spiritual leader faced what Raut described as undue police action, has sparked widespread debate. Raut emphasized that the Shankaracharya speaks his mind boldly, which might irk some, but his position demands unwavering respect. ‘This is not just an attack on an individual; it’s a challenge to the very essence of Hindutva,’ he declared.

Pointing fingers at the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, Raut questioned the heavy-handed police response. He reminded everyone that Shankaracharyas hold the status of state guests across India, including invitations to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s residence during past visits. ‘Those who flaunt their Hindutva credentials should be deeply concerned,’ Raut added.

Raut took a personal dig at Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, recalling how Shinde once washed the Shankaracharya’s feet and performed rituals at Varsha. ‘Now, he’s silent. This is opportunistic Hindutva at its worst,’ he charged. Labeling silent ‘Hindus’ as fake, Raut vowed that Shiv Sena (UBT) would keep a close watch and demand justice.

As the controversy simmers, Raut’s words underscore a larger rift in India’s political landscape over religious authority and genuine faith. The party stands firm: no tolerance for assaults on spiritual leaders under the guise of politics.
