In a vibrant display of agricultural enthusiasm, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Advanced Agriculture Festival 2026 at the Dussehra Ground in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. The three-day event, running from April 11 to 13, has drawn farmers, scientists, experts, and prominent leaders from across India, setting the stage for groundbreaking discussions on modern farming.
The opening day saw an overwhelming turnout, with thousands of farmers eager to explore innovations. At around 12:30 PM, Rajnath Singh arrived alongside Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, receiving a thunderous welcome from the crowd.
Addressing the gathering, Singh emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to farmers’ welfare. ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always said that farmers are the backbone of our economy. A strong farmer means a strong nation,’ he declared. He highlighted direct benefit schemes like the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, which transfers Rs 6,000 annually straight to farmers’ accounts, honoring their hard work.
Singh also praised the PM Crop Insurance Scheme, a lifeline during natural calamities that ensures compensation for crop losses. Beyond financial aid, he noted infrastructure boosts—roads, electricity, and water reaching villages—and digital mandis allowing farmers to sell produce nationwide. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) system has been fortified to guarantee fair prices.
In a unique initiative, the armed forces are now procuring organic fruits and vegetables from farmers near cantonment areas, boosting incomes and promoting organic farming. Millets like jowar, bajra, and ragi are integrated into military rations, opening new markets for these crops.
‘Farmers don’t just grow food; they fuel employment, industry, and services,’ Singh stated. He urged youth to embrace agriculture using drones, sensors, and mobile tech for smart farming, promising higher yields and incomes.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan described the festival as a ‘school of knowledge,’ featuring live demos of horticulture, integrated farming, drone technology, and more. Scientists present research, followed by interactive Q&A with farmers. State-specific agri roadmaps, including for Raisen, Vidisha, Sehore, and Dewas, align with PM Modi’s vision.
The festival continues until April 13, with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari set to attend the finale. Farmers are encouraged to participate and adopt these transformative techniques.
