Jaipur’s economic landscape is set for a major boost, thanks to the groundbreaking India-US trade agreement. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma hailed the deal as a ‘game changer’ that will propel the state’s growth into new heights.
Speaking on Wednesday, CM Sharma expressed optimism about the pact’s direct benefits for Rajasthan. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, this agreement slashes US tariffs on Indian goods from 50% to 18%, opening doors to one of the world’s largest markets.
‘This tariff reduction will make Indian exports highly competitive globally,’ Sharma stated. He emphasized how it aligns perfectly with ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, giving a fresh impetus to domestic manufacturing and self-reliance.
Rajasthan, a key export hub in India, stands to gain immensely, particularly its thriving textile sector, which forms the backbone of the state’s economy. With easier access to American markets, demand for Rajasthani fabrics and apparel is expected to surge.
The Chief Minister highlighted the positive ripple effects on MSMEs, which are vital for job creation. ‘Our artisans and small businesses will find new opportunities,’ he added, pointing to the state’s rich handicraft heritage including blue pottery, miniature paintings, marble crafts, wooden artifacts, and handwoven textiles.
Jaipur’s renowned gems and jewelry industry will also see expansion, with better prices and broader market reach for craftsmen and traders. Sharma noted the multiplier effect on allied sectors like transportation, packaging, banking, and insurance, generating thousands of jobs.
Urging stakeholders to collaborate for a prosperous Rajasthan, CM Sharma reflected on India’s global trade strides, including nine major agreements in the past six years. ‘When the world’s two largest democracies join hands, entrepreneurs, workers, and citizens all benefit,’ he concluded, underscoring India’s rising stature in international trade.
